Message that contains details to remember

Instructions

Cubs will need paper and a pen. Explain to them that you are going to give them a message that they need to note down, making sure they have all the main details.
e.g. At 4pm on Monday 13th April, a man, with a bushy beard, ran out of the bank. He was wearing a black coat, black trousers and a black hat. Over his shoulder was a swag bag. As he came out of the bank he smiled and waved. Then he turned left and ran down the high street.
Cubs then put this aside. Ask them to e-mail you or with parents’ permission WhatsApp you the message later in the evening/tomorrow.

Next, give each Cub in turn a short message which they can not write down. Explain that you will be asking them to tell you that message later in the meeting.
e.g. A Cub always does his best, We have a wonderful NHS, Remember to wash your hands regularly etc.

Ask Cubs to get the semaphore decipher sheets sent to them. Their task is to work out what 2 messages you are sending them. Signal, Hello Cubs and Stay at Home. Who worked it our correctly?
If they haven’t already found it on the badges at home section, tell the cubs that there is a Morse code message for them to decipher using the Morse code sheet also provided. (Created using a free online audio Morse code generator - message - Keep safe). Again, ask them to send you the message once they have worked out what it says.

Ask the Cubs in turn to retell you the simple message you gave them earlier. The one they weren’t allowed to write down! Can they remember it?

Task for at home – Make semaphore flags using the instructions sent with the semaphore decipher sheet. Create 3 simple messages, using semaphore. Video and upload to badges at home. Can others work out what the messages are?
