DIY Signs and Hazards Bingo

Description

A fun way to learn and demonstrate that you know signs and hazards by playing a game of Bingo.
Up to 20 players with individual cards.

Resources

Attached Spreadsheet has a key of the signs and symbols; there are then 3 sheets of cards which enable up to 20 players.

Instructions

Introduce the signs and warning symbols. I found it helpful to explain that blue circles show something you must do while red circles show something you must not do, etc. This helps the YP to more quickly look for the correct symbols on their card.

Explain the following before starting:
- The caller will call out each symbol; alternatively hold up the flashcard. (I found giving the description first and giving a couple of seconds before holding the card helped.)
- There are 28 symbols in total and only 20 on each card so they won't have every symbol called.
- A vertical line of 4 completed symbols has no value.
- They must call "LINE" when they have completed a horizontal line of 5 called symbols. This counts for the 1st player only (or as you decide to give points).
- They must call "BINGO" when they have completed a full card.

To play Bingo, call each symbol randomly and mark off each one called to avoid repetition.
If the YP calls line the symbols must be checked as correct before proceeding. It is often helpful to allow a few YP to call line to demonstrate common mistakes, like mistaking the trip and slip hazard symbols.
