Recycling Scavenger Hunt on Zoom

Description
Beavers learn about recycling as part of the Global Issues badge.
Resources
Parents told in advance that their child will need to find some items around the house that can be recycled or reused.
Instructions
Quick talk about recycling and reusing things to start off.
We should try to recycle or reuse things when we can as making new things uses up energy and creates waste.
If the materials are not recycled or reused, they end up buried in the ground or as litter and can affect wildlife.
Some materials (like plastic) take up space forever as they are not biodegradable which means they don't break down and disappear.
Tell the Beavers the following examples and have some items to show them:
Put in recycling bin at home
cereal boxes
newspapers
empty toilet/kitchen rolls
fizzy drink cans
shampoo bottles
milk bottles
yoghurt pots
Taken to a recycling centre or collection point
glass jars/bottles
batteries
Energy efficient light bulbs
Glasses (for vision)
Taken to a charity shop
clothes
books
toys
Not recyclable
sweet wrappers
baby wipes
nappies
Then ask the Beavers to find the following items (one at a time) and have a look at what each Beaver has brought:
- something plastic they would put in the recycling bin at their home
- something they would take to a charity shop
- something else they would put in the recycling bin at their home.
