Description
A game to reinforce compass directions and basic co-ordinates in a fun way
Resources
* Something to mark out 5x5 grids on the ground (tape, string, chalk or sheets of paper depending on the surface)
* Numbers and letters to mark columns/rows in grid - printed or chalked
* Instructions for Beavers (see attachments)
* Pencils
* 'Treasure' - packets of chocolate buttons?
* Compasses (optional)
Instructions
* Lay out a 5x5 grid on the floor and mark the columns A-E and the rows 1-5 (ideally the columns would point north)
* Give each Beaver a set of instructions (four different sets in the attachments so they can each have a unique one)
* Beavers use the instructions to mark the location of the mines on their paper copy of the grid.
* Each Beaver in turn guides a different Beaver to the 'treasure' using instructions such as 'North 1 square'. Beavers can only pass to adjacent squares - not diagonally
* If the guided Beaver hits a 'mine' the leader/watching Beavers should make a loud 'boom' and the treasure hunt must restart
