Sight awareness (on Zoom)

Description

An activity to do on Zoom to cover part 4 of the Disability Awareness badge.

Resources

Blindfold, few pieces of paper, pen/pencil (ask parents to have available in advance).

Instructions

Explain to Beavers that some people cannot see very well or cannot see at all.

Some people can just see straight ahead (can't see things to the sides of them without turning their head).

Some people are the opposite and can see things at the sides but not in front.

Some people can see light but can't see things clearly - a bit like having a white cloud in front of them.

For other people, they cannot see at all and everything is black.

If we get chance, when we return to Beavers we can get glasses to put on which teach you how different people see.

For now - we're going to think about someone who cannot see at all by putting on a blindfold to do the activity.

Ask the Beavers to have the pen and paper in front of them then put on the blindfold.

Beavers are to write their name then take the blindfold off and we'll look at each Beaver's writing.

If time - repeat the activity drawing the following: -
- a sun
- a person
- a bucket and spade
- a cat
