Aim of Badge
To understand our place in space.
This Badge has 6 options of which 4 must be completed.
Introduction
People who live and work in space are called astronauts.
Some astronauts live and work on the International Space Station.
To keep safe outside of the space station, astronauts wear space suits that keep them warm and provide them with air.
The first all-female space walk took place in 2019, with two American Astronauts. (https://youtu.be/cNnvYACgwrE)
Instructions
Ladybirds are going to make a spacesuit. Show the picture of the astronaut in a spacesuit (or part of the video of Jessica and Christina)
Explain that:
- Astronauts wear a big space suit when they go outside the space station.
- When the astronauts are inside the space station, they wear indoor flight overalls
Give each Ladybird a card worksheet, scissors and colouring pencils.
The Ladybirds use the scissors to cut out the astronaut. They are already wearing a basic suit.
Cut out the space suit or flight suit for the astronaut to wear.
