Instructions
Aim of Badge
To understand our place in space.
This Badge has 6 options of which 4 must be completed.
Introduction
There are 8 major planets in our solar system, plus many minor planets (Pluto is now a dwarf planet). Five of these planets can be seen in the night sky without a telescope (Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter and Saturn), two can be seen with a telescope (Uranus and Neptune) and we live on one (Earth).
Instructions
Play the planet hop game in a large room or outdoors.
Spread the hoops throughout the room: these are planets.
Put the yellow hoop in the middle: this is the Sun.
Explain to the Ladybirds that in this game they are space rockets flying from one planet to another. They can do this by hopping, running or jumping between the hoops. While they are doing this, call out the names of countries or famous characters etc. that are familiar to them. Only when Ladybirds hear the name of one of the planets may they land on a planet. They do this by standing in any hoop, either alone or with several others.
Explain that they may not stand in the hoop representing the Sun as it is far too hot there!
(have the list of planets handy so you remember to include them all!)
