Aim of Badge
To understand our place in space.
This Badge has 6 options of which 4 must be completed.
Introduction
The International Space Station (ISS) is an orbiting laboratory that has been continuously occupied since November 2000. It was built by 15 different countries working together.
Instructions
Discuss with the Brownies what is needed for people to live in space – they need a place that has its own air, water recycling, with a source of energy and with airlocks to allow astronauts in and out. There should be radio antenna to allow communication, and a window to let the astronauts look out!
Show the Brownies the pictures of the ISS.
Each six can build their own version of the International Space Station or each six can make one part of a bigger ISS (e.g. Fairies create the airlock, Leprechauns create the solar panels, Gnomes create the living modules, Elves create the Canadarm2…)
Use foil to model the solar panels, tubes to model the living quarters and laboratories, lolly sticks could make the Canadarm2 etc.
Sixes will need teamwork to work together to build the parts and teamwork between sixes will be needed to make sure the parts fit!
