Aim of Badge
To understand our place in space.
This Badge has 6 options of which 4 must be completed.
Introduction
A very simple puff rocket can be made from scrap paper and fired by blowing through a straw.
The ESA Up Up Up activity includes instructions for making two other types of rockets.
Instructions
Discuss with the Brownies: ‘What is a rocket?’
Explain they are going to make a model rocket that is powered by their own puff – can they make the rocket fly?
Roll the piece of paper at an angle around the pencil.
Tape in two or three places.
Remove the pencil and trim the ends of the paper rocket.
Insert the straw.
Blow. Does it work?
Fold over one end to make a nose cone.
To make the rocket fly in a straight line, fins need to be added.
Make triangle shape fins and tape to the end of the rocket.
Test the rocket again.
