Gingerbread tree decoration - online

Description
This evening we are making gingerbread tree decorations online via Zoom...(with help, luck and a fair wind)!
Either to scoff as soon as they are cool enough on the night, or to decorate and dress Christmas Tree's to munch on at a later date ;-)
Resources
Parents to accompany the Beavers throughout the meeting to help and supervise them in the kitchen.
They will need the following (ingredients and utensils etc set out ahead of the meeting):
- 350g (12oz) plain flour
- 2 tsp ground ginger
- 1 tsp bicarbonate soda
- 125g (4oz) butter; diced - or spread(?)
- 150g (5oz) soft dark brown sugar
- 4 tbsp golden syrup
- 1 medium egg, beaten
- (sweets/currants/icing for decorating)
- 2 large baking trays lined with baking paper
- large mixing bowl
- wooden spoon
- rolling pin
- cutters of your choice (men / ladies / stars etc.)
- oven (180C / Gas 4) and oven gloves!
Instructions
1. Preheat oven to 180C / Gas 4 & line two large baking trays with baking paper
2. Mix flour, ginger and bicarb thoroughly in a large bowl with the wooden spoon
3. Rub the butter (or spread) into the mixture using fingertips until it resembles breadcrumbs & stir in the sugar
4. Stir in the golden syrup and egg until the mixture is a dough.
5. Tip the dough onto a floured surface and knead it smooth
6. Roll out the dough to a thickness of about 5mm & use cutters to cut out the gingerbread shapes - re-roll left over dough & repeat until the mixture is all used up.
7. Place the biscuits on the trays and bake for 10minutes - if making tree decorations use a cocktail stick, skewer or similar to make a hole that some string can be threaded through after baking.
8. Remove from the oven, allow the biscuits to cool on the trays and decorate / tie on string if/as desired.
