Instructions
Explain what the Beavers need to do to gain the Animal Friend badge.
1. Learn how to care for an animal. Find out what the animal needs. Learn about its food, habitat, space, exercise and sleeping area.
2. Help to take care of that animal for four weeks.
3. Keep a note of how you have looked after the animal for four weeks. You can draw, take photographs or write short sentences.
4. Tell others in your Colony or Lodge about the animal.
Top tips
The animal you care for could be a dog, cat, gerbil, guinea pig, fish, bird, rabbit, lamb or even a stick insect!
This can include the looking after of wild animals such as birds. Caring for them would include feeding them and looking after a bird bath, for example.
Maybe you could help look after a family member’s pet.
Ask each Beaver what animal they would be able to look after. Email/text parents in advance so they can have a chat with their child. (We were doing on Zoom so important for doing remotely but also handy prior to a physical meeting.)
Email/text the info to the parents after the meeting so they know what their child needs to do.
I've added all the badge criteria - you'll need to revisit when the children tell us all about their pet in 4 weeks time.
Good to remind them each week during the month.
