Description
Introductory adventure for scouts of Dungeons & Dragons roleplaying game. You'll need to order the free starter kit from https://shop.scouts.org.uk/new-in/dungeons-and-dragons-starter-kit
If you are an experienced role player then you could walk the scouts through creating a character, but we found it best to give them a limited choice of pre-generated characters. The opening session is an introduction to theatre of the mind, and the concept of playing a role with their imagination as opposed to via a computer. Once we'd explained it was an open world, moderated by the GM they seemed to get it, and we got a vote of 'more please' from all the scouts present.
Split into patrols, or groups of 4-5. Give each one a character, and have someone (a leader/young leader) act as DM.

range of dice (4, 6, 8, 10, 12 & 20 sided dice)
Everything you need is in the box.
If online then a free account at http://roll20.net/ will let you play that way, and it also solves the dice problem. You can use screen shots to import the maps from the PDF.
Instructions
This works best if the leader already knows how to play D&D and is a practiced DM. Either way you'll need to read both the adventure and the basic rules.
The key is to explain the mechanisms to the scouts but emphasize that it is their imagination that powers what happens, and it is an exercise is team story creation to solve the problems presented by the scenario.
