To develop road safety awareness
This Badge has 5 options of which 5 must be completed
Introduction
To prepare for this meeting,
• take a walk around the area.
• Identify the route for your quiz.
• You can draw or even download a map for it.
• Identify key items you will need like road signs and crossings.
You may choose to stay on the move, starting and possibly ending your meeting at two different points. If you do this, discussion about the activities will have to wait until the next meeting (either on Zoom or in person).
Otherwise, once the Brownies have been dropped off, depending on the number (maximum 12), they can set up stations with their sit-upons in one large pre-distanced circle, or divide the Unit into two circles.
Instructions
Provide the Brownies with a sheet of blank road signs, using the shapes that are used for the different categories.
They have to ‘collect’ as many as they can see by filling in the blanks.
When the Brownies return to their sit-upons, discuss what they have found. What do they think these signs mean? Are they correct? Why do they think they are different shapes and colours?
If you are not using a central meeting place, this discussion can happen at your next Zoom meeting.
