Take it further
You could develop this activity to get feedback about people’s favourite activities, show new people the range of things you do, or to show (or thank!) parents, carers, or volunteers.
Youth shaped guidance
Young people should choose the activity or event they want to re-enact.
Instructions
Plan and practice your performance
1. Choose a recent camp or activity that everyone took part in. Talk about your favourite moments and activities. [You may need to choose more than one camp or activity to include everybody.]
2. Split into small groups.
3. Each group should choose a moment they want to re-enact.
4. Within each group, every person needs a role. Not everyone has to be an actor (although everyone can act if they want to) – you may also need directors, creative producers, and cinematographers and camera operators.
-- Director: Oversees the performance, helps people know where to stand and how best to deliver their lines.
-- Assistant director: Can help the director, particularly with practical issues like what order to film each scene.
-- Casting director: Chooses who should play each part.
-- Art director, or costume designer: In charge of settings and props, or costumes. You can split this into two roles; one in charge of the set, and one in charge of costumes.
-- Camera operator: Films the performance.
-- Cinematographer: Thinks about the best camera angles and lighting.
-- Producer: Ensures the film is made correctly and that everything goes smoothly.
-- Post-production: Edits the film afterwards.
-- Screenwriter: Writes the story, including the lines that are said by the actors.
5. Each group should practice their re-enactment, making sure they know their lines, how they will move, and where the camera needs to be.
Film your performance
- Groups should take it in turns to film their performances. If they don’t have a camera operator or cinematographer, the person leading the activity can film it for them.
Watch your masterpieces
- Gather around the laptop or projector, and watch the groups’ creations. Why not bring some popcorn or cushions and turn your meeting place into a cosy cinema?
Change the level of challenge
If you don’t have access to a camera, groups can perform ‘live’ to each other.
