Take it further
If the section would like to understand the Countryside Code in greater depth, why not create your own statements and increase the length of the game? Rather than a leader reading the statements aloud, try printing the statements in larger print and ask the young people to read them aloud or to themselves.
Instructions
1. Gather everyone together and explain the three parts of the Countryside Code: respect, protect
and enjoy.
2. Have a group discussion to make sure everyone understands the three areas of the code.
3. To begin the game, explain that everyone needs to listen carefully to the statements read aloud
and decide whether they are true or false. Once they’ve decided on their answer, they can stand by
the corresponding true or false signs.
4. This game isn’t a race, so everyone can take their time to decide.
5. Once everyone has made their decision and is standing by their chosen sign, the person leading
the game can reveal the correct answer and explain the statement from the Countryside Code.
All required information can be found in the 'Statements and explanations' below.
6. Repeat these steps until all the statements have been read and answered.
7. Everyone should now have a greater understanding of the Countryside Code. If anyone would like
to work on this further, you could try giving them scenarios or questions and they could explain
which part of the Countryside Code it would relate to – for example, what should you do with litter
when exploring the countryside?
