Description

make seed bombs to rewild an area

Everyone in the group should talk about why wildflowers are important. Explain that wildflower areas support local wildlife and biodiversity, because they provide places for insects, birds and other small animals to feed and nest.
Tell everyone that wildflowers. especially important for bees, because they give them safe spaces to nest and hibernate. It’s important that we plant enough bee-friendly flowers to give them the food they need, because humans rely on bees to pollinate plants by moving pollen from one plant to another plant of the same type.

Resources

air-drying clay
soil (I used some leftover potting soil; any kind will do)
seeds (I used a wildflower mix but, again, any kind will do!)
envelopes
tags and twine

Instructions

D.I.Y. Seed Bombs
instructions courtesy of Mr. Brown Thumb

Cover your worksurface to protect it from dirt and spills. Line a baking sheet with newspaper.

Break off a bit of clay and roll into a ball. Use your thumb to create an indent, and insert a pinch of soil, followed by a pinch of seeds. Seal the indent and re-roll into a ball. Repeat with remaining clay, soil and seeds. Let clay dry for a few days, turning the balls if you like (next time I might set the balls on a wire rack so that air circulates on all sides).

Once dried, place a few balls in each envelope, along with instructions, and tie up with a tag and some twine.
