Description
Recipe for simple baked Scones which can take fruit or cheese, depending on the wishes of the young people.

5cm scone cutter
Instructions
Ingredients:
225g Self Raising Flour
55g Butter cut into small cubes.
150ml Milk
10ml Vanilla [ Fruit Scone Only ]
1 egg
25g Caster Sugar [ Fruit Scone Only ]
25g Cheese or dried fruit
Method:
1. Wash hands and make sure that your work surface is clean.
2. Heat oven to 220C, Gas Mark 7. Cut baking parchment to fit baking sheet.
3. Add flour and butter to mixing bowl. Rub in the butter using fingers until the mixture looks like breadcrumbs.
4. Add cheese or fruit as wanted. [ If Fruit, add the sugar] Mix them in to the breadcrumbs
5. Add half the milk to the dry ingredients. [ If Fruit, add the Vanilla ] Use the blunt knife to mix in the milk using a cutting motion.
6. Slowly mix in the rest of the milk until the dough comes together. It should be soft, but not sticky.
7. Dust the work surface with flour. GENTLY (VERY GENTLY), pat the dough onto the work surface, using the palm of your hand until the dough is 2cm thick.
8. Use the scone cutter and cut rounds of scones. Keep doing this until all the dough has been used up.
9. Place the scones on the baking sheet and glaze with the beaten egg.
10. Bake for 13-15 minutes until golden brown and risen.
11. Place scones on a wire rack to cool.
