Water for Life: Make your own rain

Report Copyright Infringement View in OSM UK

Description

This is an activity for girls to see what happens to clouds to make it rain.
From Water for Life badge. This is 2/3 activities needed for the Raindrops and Rainbows clause.

Resources

Equipment
• spray bottle filled with water (it must be able to spray a fine mist)
• baking tray or aluminium oven tray
• support tray so that the baking tray can stand on its end on a table or bench

Instructions

Stand the baking tray on the table using the support tray so it stays upright. Now spray your tray with this fine mist. You will see that some drops of water hold on to the tray, while others run down the tray combining with others on the way.
When we have rainy weather, the grey clouds block out the sun. The clouds are actually full of tiny drops of water. These drops of water are floating in the clouds and they eventually mass together and form bigger drops. This massing together of the raindrops continues until the drops grow so big they begin to fall and then it rains.
