Resources
+ Depends on the choices the girls make
Instructions
Aim of Badge
One of the targets of the UN Sustainable Development Goal 12 is to ensure that people everywhere have the relevant information and awareness for sustainable development and lifestyles in harmony with nature by 2030. There are 6 activities in this badge. Activity 1 is compulsory. Complete any three of the remaining parts 2-6.
Introduction
Activity No. 5: Being sustainable can be fun! Teach the girls ways to be eco-friendly through the medium of partying, which is normally very wasteful.
Instructions
This is very much up to the Leaders how they run this. If you think that your girls are able to help organise the party, then invite them to think of ways to reduce waste. Discuss how we each have a responsibility to reduce waste and how can we do that and put our plans to reduce consumption into action in our own birthday or event parties?

List of ideas for a sustainable party
• Instead of packaged goodies, try bringing home baked goods or support local bakeries
• Instead of plastic decorations like balloons or things with glitter, try making decorations, (bonus points for recycled materials)
• Try vegan foods
• Try not to produce more food than is required to feed those attending
• Use decorated paper bags instead of plastic party bags (could be an activity)
• Use actual plates and cutlery over plastic ones
• If there is prizes or gifts, try to get ones with no packaging or made of plastic
• Avoid wrapping paper, use recycled paper, paper gift bags or newspaper (pass the parcel)
