Aim of Badge
One of the targets of the UN Sustainable Development Goal 12 is to ensure that people everywhere have the relevant information and awareness for sustainable development and lifestyles in harmony with nature by 2030. There are 6 activities in this badge. Activity 1 and 2 are compulsory. Complete any three of the remaining parts 3-6.
Introduction
Activity No. 3. Play the Twisted Game of SDG 12
This game is based on the game Twister with an SDG12 twist! Each group or Patrol will create their own Twister mat and spinner by reusing materials to emphasis the importance of repurposing things. Then they play Twister in a group/Patrol. Patrols can then swap mats and spinners at the following week’s meeting for variety. This resource can be created through a variety of avenues and builds on a Patrol’s teamwork and communication skills in the design and delivery.
Instructions
Build a ‘Twister’ mat with some of the materials mentioned in the materials list; for example, duvet, mat and paint.
Get creative when making a spinner. Ensure it includes 4 colours and 4 limbs (left hand, left foot, right hand and right foot). The spinner should have four coloured sections to represent each of the categories.
The Question Cards:
Once the patrols have their mats and spinners made, brainstorm possible questions under each of the 4 categories - Water, Renewable Energy, Climate + Weather and Recycling. Each category should represent one of the 4 colours - Blue, Yellow, Red + Green. Sample questions can be found in the attachment.
How to play the game:
1) Designate two teams of three/four players.
2) A member of one team spins the spinner to determine colour and limb, then assumes that position; for example, right hand, blue.
3) Another member of the same team reads a question card of corresponding colour; for example, blue question card.
4) If the player answers correctly, move onto the next team. If the player answers incorrectly, the opposing team is given a chance to answer.
5) Teams take turns until a player falls and only then will the opposing team win the game.
Attachments/Template needed for activity?
