Navigator - Level 1 (improve accessibility by working together in a small group)
4. Draw a simple map of where you live, your meeting place or another area local to you.
Also practice/reinforce:
1. Locate yourself on a simple map.
2. Identify a number of features or locations on that map.
3. Learn the four cardinal points of a compass.

Large Sheet of Paper
Felt Tip Markers or Similar
Simple outline map (for leader to draw at start)
Map of local area (for leader to refer to, if needed)
Map Symbols
Instructions
Large sheet of paper - stuck to wall, board or table.
Young people in semi-circle so all can see paper.
Explain: Going to work together to produce sketch map of local area.
Mark points of compass in one corner.
Start with initial features (Leader draws simple outline map) - river, main roads, meeting place
Young people take turns to
- suggest other places to mark on (homes, schools, places of interest, community services)
- choose a symbol (based loosely on OS map symbols)
- locate and mark on map
