Instructions

Everyone should find a space far away from the campfire or inside if there isn’t space to safely play away from the campfire.
The person leading the game should demonstrate how to stop (stand still), drop (drop to the floor) and roll (do a log roll back and forth).
When the person leading the game calls 'go' everyone should start running around in the designated area.
The person leading the activity should call ‘stop, drop and roll’ and everyone should copy the actions demonstrated earlier.
The person leading the activity can celebrate the first person to complete the action safely or the last person to do the action is out.
Everyone should stand back up and run around again.
Once the game is finished everyone should discuss why stop, drop and roll might be important and when to use it (stop, drop and roll information below explains why these actions are important).

Stop

The fire victim must stop still. Ceasing any movement which may fan the flames or
hamper those attempting to put the fire out.

Drop

The fire victim must ‘drop’ to the ground, lying down if possible, covering their face with their hands to avoid facial injury.

Roll

The fire victim must roll on the ground repeatedly in order to extinguish the fire by
depriving it of oxygen. If the victim is on a rug or one is nearby, they can roll the rug around themselves to further extinguish the flame. If a fire blanket is at hand, that is also a good way to extinguish the fire.

Reflection
During this game everyone learned how to be responsible and develop their skills to keep themselves and others safe around a fire.

After playing 'Stop, drop and roll' ask everyone to think about:

Why do you think it is important to know how to 'stop, drop and roll'?
Who would you like to teach this skill?
