Description

Activities and crafts centred around the Harvest festival

Resources

glue, leaves, cardboard, wheat stalks, string, various fruit and veg, tray, towel or cloth, harvest festival prayer

Instructions

Make corn dollies using the attached instructions. You can also use rafia.

Create a harvest wreath by cutting out a cardboard ring and getting the young people to stick dead leaves all around with PVA.

Get the young people to go on a fruit and veg hunt. Place different fruit and veg around your meeting place / home and give the young people a set amount of time to see how many they can find and write down the names of.

Put the fruit and veg on a tray, give young people 2minutes to memorise them. Cover the fruit and veg with a towel or clothe and remove one item. See if the young people can work out what's been removed.

Ask young people to bring in tinned and dried goods in. Donate / take to a harvest festival service or take to a food bank.

Read the harvest prayer below, ask young people to come up with their own or create one as a colony / pack.

Dear God,
Thank you for all the food we have,
Thank you for sending the sun and rain to help crops grow,
Thank you for the farmers who grow and harvest our food,
Thank you for the people who work in the shops where we buy our food from,
Thank you for the grown ups who cook us delicious meals,
We think about people in the world that don't always have enough to eat,
We pray that these people won't be hungry anymore,

Amen
