Description

Counting to 10 - This is another great time-filler or icebreaker but, more importantly, a great team-builder and getting-to-know-you game.

Instructions

Aim – The aim of the game is to get the girls counting to ten. This game is great for concentration and could be used as part of the Healthy Mind Interest Badge.

Instructions:
1. Explain to the girls that they are going to count to 10 as a team. They will probably have started counting before you have said it.
2. A Leader should say a number, starting with ‘one’, and then call a girl’s name. This girl should say ‘two’ and call another girl’s name and so on.
3. As normal, girls will try to select their friends so, if a girl gets the number wrong, e.g., says ‘two’ when two has just been said, the Leader should start again. This is an opportunity for the Leader to select a quieter girl to ensure she gets her turn in the game.
4. If they get to 10, play again. Once they get the idea, raise the number to 20.

Alternatives:
Once the girls have mastered the game, you can use this game to complete a particular section of the programme such as the Healthy Body, Healthy Mind and Bird Watcher Interest Badges, and outdoor activities.
For example:
1. Discuss various parts of the Healthy Body badge, e.g., the food plate, handwashing, good hygiene. Choose one topic from the badge.
2. Play the game the same way but, instead of calling a number, they must list say something associated with the chosen topic, e.g., toothbrush, toothpaste, hair brush, soap, or hair bobbins.
3. Leaders, prepare a list of items in advance that you can refer to because we are all guilty of brain fog and going blank.
Awards or points can be added if desired by Leaders.
