Countryside Code Story Spinner
Report Copyright Infringement View in OSM UK
Description
Discuss the countryside code either as a pack or in sixes - going through the principles and asking the Cubs for examples. (NFU have great posters and downloadable resources.)
Once everyone is familiar with the principles split into sixes and create 'story spinners'.
Resources
Cardboard
Scissors
Ruler
Colouring pencils/pens
Instructions
1. Each Cub has a circle of white cardboard (side plate size is ideal).
2. Using the ruler mark joining lines around the outer edge of the circle. Cut along the lines so you end up with a pentagon shape.
3. Make a hole in the centre of the pentagon with a pencil.
5. Draw lines from the centre hole to each point of the pentagon. You now have 5 segments to draw part of your countryside walk in. Each segment will relate to an area of the countryside code: a picture of a dog can relate to keeping dogs under control on leads and cleaning up after your dog; a picture of a picnic relates to taking rubbish home with you; a picture of a sheep or horse can relate to leaving gates as you find them, following footpaths etc etc.
6. Poke a pencil through the hole and spin your spinner. Tell the part of your story that is on the side of the spinner that lies flat against the table, ensuring you are keeping to the Countryside Code.
