Description
Scouts work as a team to get the furthest along some markers.
Resources
Cones/markers
Instructions
[Setup]
1. Split scouts into patrols/teams (equal numbers if possible)
2. Set out 6 or so cones/markers in a line (a large step apart) for each patrol
3. Each patrol stands behind the first cone/marker for their line
4. Patrols are given 5 minutes to discuss different times they've been in a team. They want to list together as many specific examples that applies to as many of their patrol as possible.
[Game]
5. The first patrol will announce one type of team to all Scouts (a team type that has not been mentioned yet, however variations are allowed). It can either be the patrol leader each time, or a designated speaker, or they can take it in turns
6. All Scouts from ALL patrols who have been in that type of team step forward to the next cone marker
7. Repeat steps 5 and 6 for the next patrol, until each patrol has had a turn
8. Continue doing this until ALL Scouts have moved three (or two if doing this for Cubs) cones/markers forwards
9. The winning patrol is the one who have moved the most markers forward in total (if teams are uneven, then only count the furthest number of Scouts along for the smallest patrol)
10. Bonus congratulations to the individual Scout(s) who have moved the furthest along individually.
If a team can't think of something when it is their turn, one of the leaders can suggest something.
Strategy notes: The more specific their team examples are, the better - if it applies to lots in their patrol. The idea is to find lots in common for their patrol so they can move forward, and using specific team examples (instead of generic ones) to avoid other patrols also moving forward as many for their team examples.
For example, "Playing on a sports team" will likely get most of not all Scouts moving forward (including Scouts from other patrols). "Playing on a cricket team" would get fewer Scouts in total moving forward, but is a great one if lots of that patrol have played on a cricket team.
Similarly, "Being in a Scout Patrol" should have everyone move forward, but "Patrol cooking on camp", or "Patrol leaders council" may not have everyone move forward.
Possible examples for leaders to give out if the Scouts get stuck:
Scout Patrol, Cub Pack, Beaver Colony, Camp cook team, Sports team, Football team, Cricket team, rugby team, netball team, basket ball team, School football team, Non-school football team, hiking team, orienteering team, bowling team, teamwork at school, teamwork in a specific class in school, teamwork on a school residential, online team game (a specific example can be used here too)
