Description
A series of activities, investigations and experiments to highlight the impact of the Fast Fashion industry on clothing manufacturing nations, consuming nations, water and our environment.
Resources
Attached Fast Fashion booklet and Fash Fashion Cover
Both saved as pdf documents – when you send to print, select BOOKLET in the print dialogue box.
The cover is a separate document should be printed on heavier card as the back page of the cover is a postcard for the girls to write to their local TD/Councillor or whoever is appropriate. I could be printed on ordinary paper and maybe glued to card for sending, or sent a letter.
Instructions
Give the girls booklets to take home and carry out the water consumption record, wardrobe analysis and fake fabric activity.
Lead the discussion the following week as per the points in the booklet.
If possible carry out the Science Experiments the same week to give further clarification of the impact of Fast Fashion on water.
Ask girls to draw a picture and write on the postcard at the back of the booklet to send to their local TD/Councillor/newspaper – whoever they feel they would like to raise the issue with.
If possible contact schools the girls attend and ask if the girls could present their findings to their class.
Three Science Experiments on OGM IGG Interest Badge: Science Investigator Badge – links with the Responsible Consumerism Badge/Fast Fashion.
3 glasses of Red Cabbage water - add vinegar and blow through a straw into it and see the change of adding acid and co2 to water.
Mix a bowl of water with some household products - eg toothpaste then pass through a coffee filter to catch the micro-plastics and demonstrate how modern products impact water purity.
Gently heat water - measure the height of the water in the pot as it heats up - demonstrating how water expands/water level rises as it warms.
