Description

Sheaf Toss is a game played at Highland games, where competitors have to try and get a filled bag, or sheaf, over a high bar using only a pitchfork., in this version, we will use a Bean bag, 2 newspaper batons and a couple of chairs


Resources

Equipment:
• Bean Bag
• 2 Rolled up Newspaper Batons
• 2 Chairs


Alternative
- pillow per patrol
- Stave per patrol
- Something to mark the start line and landing places

Instructions

How to Play:
Split the Pack into 2 teams and line the up along either side of the hall and number of each team from opposite ends
Place a chair at each end of the hall. Place the Bean Bag and Batons in the centre between the chairs
Assign each team a chair and call out a number Cubs with that number have to try and get the bean Bag under their chair using only the Baton
A point is awarded to a team each time they “Score”

The person leading the activity should mark out a start line and put the sheaf (the pillow) on it.
The first player should go to the start line. Everyone else should be a safe distance away from the sheaf toss.
The first player should use the pole to lift the sheaf up and launch it as far as possible. They shouldn’t step over the start line.
The person leading the game should mark where the sheaf ends up. They should measure the distance and jot it down as a score.
Each player should have two turns at tossing the sheaf. The further they can toss it, the higher their score.
