Instructions
Introduction / Icebreakers
“Spot the difference” over Zoom.
Participants must have their video display on in order to play. The person that is “it” would give everyone else 10 seconds to look at that person’s video. The person that is “it” would then turn off their camera and mic for 5 seconds, while they change something about their display (for example, tying their hair up, taking off their necker, etc.) before coming back on screen. Everyone else then guesses what has been changed.
Activity 1
“Build your dream camp” - this can be done in break-out rooms of 5/6 people.
Unfortunately we can’t camp in-person this year, but the participants can spend this session imagining what it would have been like! In groups, the participants would plan out what their ideal camp would look like and how it would be ran. They must ensure to include the logistics of the site, including the essentials such as food, shelter, water and waste disposal. The inclusion of waste disposal and recycling would then lead into the second activity of the session.
Activity 2
Part 1 - #2MinuteStreetClean.
The participants would go on a quick 2 minute litter pick-up, either in their garden or surrounding areas and see how much waste they can find in just 2 minutes. They could also submit a video time-lapse of their walk.
Part 2 – Local recycling.
Participants would walk to their local bottle bank / recycling centre. They would be asked to submit a poster of what they see there; what items can be recycled, are people recycling properly (why/why not), is there any recycling bins that they think should be there but aren’t (clothes, plastic, etc.). They could also bring recyclable waste from their home and video themselves separating each item into the correct bin.
Debrief/Discussion
We would discuss the importance of food / shelter / water, which touches on a number of various SDGs. And how these things are not just important at camp, but in their (and everyone else) every day lives.
