Instructions
Introduction / Icebreakers-10 mins
• Padlet icebreaker where participants will answer basic questions (name, branch, favourite Netflix show, a female they think is influential) and to choose a meme which they think best represents them/what they find funny or amusing
• Discussion surrounding chosen female role models will take place on the Zoom call
Activity 1 -Kahoot Quiz- max. 30 mins
• an introductory PowerPoint will explain the different types of inequality men and women in Ireland can experience and will draw on some facts and figures. Examples include in the workplace, in media, in sport, coming back off maternity/paternity leave, leadership roles, and sexual-based discrimination.
• The Kahoot Quiz will be explained and individuals will be asked to choose which category they feel best represents each scenario
• There will be a maximum of 8 questions
Activity 2 -Empower the Future-30 mins
• Participants will be split into breakout rooms and asked to develop a “mock project/design” which will tackle one section of gender inequality in Ireland. The topic will be left open and quite broad so participants can brainstorm and debate sustainable ideas. Previous ideas have included mental health support schemes for women returning from maternity leave, a girls-only mixed martial arts club teaching self-defence, and an app which assists women when walking home late at night by providing safe routes home and vetted female taxi drivers.
• Groups will use Miro or Mural to plan out their ideas and there will be a few leading questions to get them started e.g. target audience, benefits, potential challenges and how to overcome them. There will be no price limit so participants can be creative as they like.
• Groups will be asked to prepare 1 slide highlighting their idea and to nominate one member of the group to present their elevator pitch to the whole audience.
• Groups will have 10 mins to brainstorm, and 15 mins to create their slide and elevator pitch.
Debrief/Discussion-max. 30 mins
• Each group will have 3 mins to present their idea to the whole group. This will be done by sharing their screen on the Zoom call. Alternatively groups can go away from the screen and create a physical poster of what they would like to design and present it back on camera when the time runs out.
• A wrap up conclusion of 5-10 mins will review everything we have discussed in the session and the winners of each pitching session will be announced.
• There is potential to have their design featured on IGG social media over the course of the year.
