Instructions
Introduction / Icebreakers
“Repeat after me” affirmations. The girls would be encouraged to be as loud as they want while repeating positive affirmations such as “I am brave”, “I am smart”, etc.
Activity 1
Participants would be told to go find something green and something red from somewhere in the house. They will then be asked a number of questions / statements / ideas and they would use their red and green items to indicate weather or not they agree with what is being said. These statements will revolve around the topic of gender equality, and if needed, will be followed by a brief description / explanation. For example, statements such as “only girls wear makeup”, “only boys can like the colour blue”, “both girls and boys are strong”. Statements would vary depending on age group.
Activity 2
Either on zoom, or away off camera, the participants would design a poster about themselves, outlining their personality, things they like etc. They would also then include things they want to be; such as what job they would
like, or if they think they need to be nicer to a sibling (good turns). This activity could also be ran with older participants (SB & leaders) as a self-reflective piece and could also tie-in with a Free Being Me session.
Debrief/Discussion
The main discussion point would be that who they are and who they want to be is not defined or limited by their gender, and that they should treat others as equals and should be treated equally by others.
