2. To learn some easy ways to repair clothes.

Fabric or clothing item to be repaired. Try not to go out of the way to buy new fabric as it is just for using for practice.
Needle and thread.
A button. Check new clothes for buttons on the tag or salvage one from an old item of clothing, again it’s just for practice.
Darning needle (thick, blunt needle often used in knitting to sew) only if you have it!
Sock with hole
Instructions
Introduction / Icebreakers
Get those at home to run and grab their favourite item of clothing and explain why it is that item.
Display SDG poster and ask what goals does fashion relate to.
5 min presentation on why fast fashion is bad and how repairing clothes can help to avoid those horrors. There will be links made to SDGs 1, 5, 6, 8, 10, 12, 13, 14 as fast fashion effects all of these goals.
Activity 1 – Sewing
With the help of visual aids, we will teach them the running, the back and the ladder stitch and their uses. Then we will show how to sew on a button.
Activity 2 – Darning
Just like with sewing, will show how to use darning to fix a hole in a sock. If they don’t have a darning needle, the other facilitator will show how to mend it using a patch. If there is a large divide in the group, we will use breakout rooms.
Activity 3 – Other Methods
A quick mention for other methods such as jean patches, wonderweb and visual mending showing examples and explaining how it is done.
Debrief/Discussion
Just have to make sure there is time for questions
