Pack Your Bags-the active version

Report Copyright Infringement View in OSM UK

Description

This activity is a variation on the paper exercise deciding the differences between what you want and what you need using the setting of hiking and camping. The group will discuss and practise making decisions about what they might want to take with them - or not- for different scenarios.

The difference here is that it will be run as a physical relay activity as a different vehicle for completing the money skills badge since some of the other activities can be more sedentary, to keep their young minds engaged

Resources

Per team: Rucksack, daysack, sleeping bag and other assorted items that would be useful for camp or day hike/ night hike activities and other scenarios. Also include some items they might like to have but not need, to spark discussion eg: fluffy slippers, chargers, play stations

If you are lucky enough to have young leaders- this is an ideal task for them to bring in a set of `things'- we have 3 so one can furnish each team

Instructions

Place the selection of items to pack at one end of the room in a pile for each team.
Divide the group into teams.
Give a scenario and run a relay race to see who can pack their bag first

Reflection on the packing: See what has been packed, discuss for example `It's starting to rain, has anyone got anything for that?, Has anyone packed suncream? the sun is coming out etc'
