Everyday foods and treat foods

Report Copyright Infringement View in OSM UK

Description

An activity to get Beavers to think about which foods are good to eat everyday and which foods are things we should only enjoy occasionally. Also discuss food swaps. Aim to move away from using language that implies good or bad foods.

Circle discussion and sorting.

Resources

Real or toy food or pictures- include a full range of foods from all food groups including treats. Ideally at least one food type for each Beaver.

Baskets/ trays to sort the foods onto.

Instructions

Sit the colony in a circle and say that today we are going to think about which foods are healthy and we can eat everyday and which foods are treats and we should have less often. We are also going to think about some swaps we could make to treat foods.
Introduce the everyday food tray and the treat tray.
Go round the circle with a bag of the foods and get each Beaver to take a food.
Tell them to turn to the person to their left and say if they think their food is an everyday food or a treat food and why.
Each Beaver to then put their food onto one of the trays and give their reason if they are able to.
At the end, talk about what we decided. Look at the treat food tray and see if Beavers can think of some swaps to make that would make it healthier.
