Description
A 2-stage game that has been part of First Rochdale's repertoire since time immemorial
Designed for small groups 3-12 approx
Can adjust rules to suit group size/ability
Resources
1 soft ball
Instructions
--First Stage--
Start by having all players standing in a circle with legs apart (wide enough for the ball to pass through), toes touching
Drop the ball in the middle of the circle
Each player join hand (not with one another) in a volleyball style grip & swing their hands to knock the ball between another player's legs.
If the ball passes between two players & outside the circle, the player who knocked it out gets an "Eggy" (three "Eggies" and they are "it" in the next stage)
If the ball is knocked between one player's legs, they are "it" and the next part stage of the game can begin.
--Alternatively--
The person who is "it" leaves the circle and they restart the process until there is one left. This is ideal for Beavers age group.
--Second stage--
This is the dodgeball stage. For larger groups, have 2 or more players become "it" before moving on and/or use additional balls
The player who is "it" must hit the other players with the ball. Depending upon how soft the ball is, you may want to enforce a "knee or below" rule for body hits
The player who is "it" is allowed to move with the ball, the other players must avoid being hit
When another player is struck by a ball thrown by the player who is "it", they join their team but neither player is allowed to move when holding the ball. Depending on the size of the play area, you may want to relax this rule.
The winner is the last player standing. You can either end the game here or move back to the first stage, however; the person who was "it" in the last game cannot be "it" in any following games. If the ball is knocked between their legs, it counts as an "Eggy"
