Instructions

It’s drawing time!

The person leading the activity should explain to everyone that they will be taking part in three drawing challenges. In two of the challenges they will be working on their own, and in one they will be working in pairs.

Everyone should think about the Platinum Jubilee logo and what it symbolises.

You could talk about how many years the Queen has been on the throne, or talk about why the metal platinum has been used to symbolise this special anniversary.

Everyone should take a piece of paper, a pen or pencil, and a copy of the Jubilee logo.

To help save paper waste, you could ask everyone to fold their paper into thirds, and use one third of the page for each challenge.

Everyone should have a go at the challenges below. Once everyone has finished, sit together and encourage everyone to chat about what they enjoyed and which they found most challenging.

Challenge one – pairs
Everyone should get into pairs. Each pair should sit back-to-back. One person in the pair should describe what the Platinum Jubilee logo looks like, while the other person draws what they hear described. The person describing must not let their partner see the picture of the logo.
Have a look at the Art apart activity for another example of this challenge.

Give everyone a few minutes to work through this challenge in their pairs. You could then swap over the roles so everyone has a chance to draw and describe.
After everyone has finished, ask everyone to hold up their pictures and the logo to see how well they did.

Challenge two – blindfolded
Everyone should work alone for this challenge. They have two minutes to draw the Platinum Jubilee logo, but this time they will be blindfolded.
Give everyone a few minutes to memorise the logo and then ask everyone to close their eyes or put on a blindfold.
Start the stopwatch. After two minutes, ask everyone to hold up their pieces of paper and show off their masterpiece.

Challenge three – non-dominant hand
Everyone should work alone for this challenge. They will have two minutes to copy the logo but they can only use their non-dominant hand.
Start the stopwatch. After two minutes, ask everyone to hold up their piece of paper and show off their masterpiece.
