Fundraising at Local Fete/Fayre

Report Copyright Infringement View in OSM UK

Description

Young people actively helping to raise funds for the group, or another suitable charity by helping run a stall at a local village/church/school fete/fayre or similar.

Our group ran a crockery smash after collecting up old mismatched crockery from the community. You could also run a tombola, guess how many [x] in a jar, treasure hunt, marble madness, or any of the many other traditional stalls.

Resources

Varies depending on the game you choose.

For most you will need:
a table,
a few chairs,
a gazebo/tent (if outdoors),
moneybox and a float of about £5 in silver and £10 in £1 coins
Group sign & publicity info
Sign-up sheet for potential new leaders & members

Instructions

Get the young people involved in preparatory activity (teach them about the charity, and have them help plan what you will be doing - this fills part of the requirements for the local impact staged award). Collect up things useful for the stall you've chosen in the weeks ahead of the event (jars & prizes for a tombola, crockery for a smash, etc).

Create an event on OSM with all the details and get your young people signed up. You'll need some to help set up your stall/tent, some to run it over the course of your event, and more to help tidy up at the end.

Make a rota and allot young people half hour slots, ideally every 15 minutes so that you always have some that know how to do it with the new arrivals. Stagger them on and off over the course of the event so that they all get to participate with the other stalls and festivities.
