Instructions

LEADER PREPARATION
A leader will need to download and print the The Queen and Her Life Timeline activity cards and cut these into their individual cards.

GETTING INTO THE ACTIVITY
Did You Know: HM Queen Elizabeth II Facts
1) Start the activity by talking about the Queen and her life. We’ve provided a fact sheet which details some of the many impressive facts about the life of the Queen and the achievements that can be remembered and celebrated.
2) For each fact, share the fact and then ask the group to guess what number goes with that fact. Who can make the most accurate guess each time?

The Queen and Her Life Timeline Activity
1) Work as one group or split into two or more smaller groups, if working with larger numbers. If doing this, each group will need a copy of the timeline activity cards.
2) Place the timeline activity cards (14 frames) in front of the group(s).
3) Children and young people should then look through the cards and explore the different milestones that are mentioned.
4) Order the cards into chronological order.
5) Let the group spend some time reflecting on the changing face of the Queen, how she developed from a child, to a wife, to a mother, to a queen and to a grandmother.
6) Depending on the ages of those taking part, leaders may wish to have further conversations
around the life of the Queen. This could include:
• What major events happened during the reign of HM Queen Elizabeth II. Add these into the timeline (i.e. WW2, moon landing, London Olympics, Brexit, Covid-19 etc).
• What major changes to our way of life have happened over the 70 years of the Queen’s reign? (i.e. technology, communications, transport, fashion, inventions etc).
• How remarkable is it that one person has always been there as an important part of our lives, despite so much change happening around us?

KEEPING EVERYONE SAFE
Talking about the loss of the Queen may be upsetting for some children. Make sure to approach the topic sensitively and be prepared to respond should a child become upset. Some resources to support children, young people and leaders can be found at
