LEADER PREPARATION
A leader will need to download a copy of our Coming Together in Prayer sheet and prayer station signs. You’ll also need to collect the resources you wish to use for the activity (i.e. post-it notes, candles etc)

GETTING INTO THE ACTIVITY
This activity has been designed to give young people an opportunity to reflect on the historic news of the death of the Queen and give them a chance to direct any sadness and concerns into prayer.

1) Spend time talking to the group about the Queen, her life, her death and how the country is responding to the news. This could include discussing things such as a favourite memory of the Queen, if they ever saw her, how they felt when they heard the news of her death and so on. This is a good opportunity for young people to express their feelings and talk openly.
2) For Christians, the Queen having been one herself, it’s important that we talk to God about how we feel and share our feelings and thoughts with him.
3) Set up four tables around the room, these will become ‘Prayer Stations’. On each table place a piece of paper with one of the below headings on. We’ve produced some signs you could print off for this. On each table leave some post-it notes, pens and candles. Encourage the group to spend some quiet time working their way around the tables and quietly reflecting and praying for each of the topics.
4) As children and young people do this they can write short prayers, or key words for a prayer, on post-it notes and place them on the table surface. They could also light candles at each of the stations to help them to visualise their prayer.
• The Queen and Her Life: Prayers of thanks for her life
• The Royal Family: Prayers of comfort and support for her family
• The Country and the Commonwealth: Prayers for the nations she was a figurehead for as we all come to terms with the news
• The New King: Prayers of strength and encouragement for our new King and his role
5) Come together as one group and bring the prayers together. We’ve written a prayer which could be used to do this, which can be found on the activity sheet.

Adapting the Activity: This activity will need to be adapted based on the age group you are working with. This may be by reducing
the prayer stations to just one area, where children can think about the four topics as one prayer.

KEEPING EVERYONE SAFE
Talking about the loss of the Queen may be upsetting for some children. Make sure to approach the topic sensitively and be prepared to respond should a child become upset. Some resources to support children, young people and leaders can be found at https://www.childbereavementuk.org
