What3words wide game
Report Copyright Infringement View in OSM UK
Description
A wide game based on what3words navigation app. Teams navigate around different 3 bases, using the what3words app. At each base they can complete a short challenge or game or task. When complete they get given the what3words code for the next base, and a single word clue. After 3 bases they’ll have 3 clue words, and they’ll have to figure out which combination of those words is the what3words location nearby to the 4th and final location, where they’ll find a prize hidden in that 3x3 metre grid square.
Resources
Each team will need access to a mobile with what3words installed (free app, or website). Older sections will likely have their own. If running with scouts, consider having an accompanying leader or young leader with the app.
Leaders running bases will need what3words installed so they are set up at the right location.
Whatever equipment needed for short tasks / challenges at each base, including a prize at the last location, to suit the site/time of day/ equipment available etc.
Instructions
Choose your location for a wide game. It should ideally be big enough so that the 3 bases are not visible from each other, eg in a woodland.
Choose a location to stash a prize - anything from sweets to a wood stove with hot chocolate making equipment! Confirm the what3words location. Put the bag there. If playing at night, it helps to have a hi-viz vest over the bag to help spot it, especially if hidden in the trees.
Choose your tasks/challenges. Eg get the team over a rope “laser beam”, first aid charades, etc.
Choose locations for the bases and identify the what3words location for them.
Send the leaders out to set up at each base. Give each leader a what3words location for the next base, so that the teams rotate around them. Also give each leader /base one of the what3words for the prize. On completion of the challenge the group get a clue word and the next base location.
After 3 bases the team has to try different combinations of the 3 clue words. One of those will be somewhere on site. Other combinations will be somewhere else in the world.
