Complete Disability Badge in an hour session for Beavers.

Necktie , A4 , Pen and Paper , Plastic hoops and other obstacles.

Instructions

I refer to points through out and at the bottom I have show the pointing method that I have used.

Have the children fold the sheet of paper in half vertically.

0ne half of the paper and in their colonies have the Beavers write down a list of the disabilities that that they have heard of ? Award points to the team that get the most.

Have one member of the colony pick out one from the list and describe in a little detail how this might affect an individual.

Have the Beavers describe the disability encourage them to think about what aids/tools etc that the individual with the disability might find useful.

Now on the other side of the A4 paper have the children think of aid/tools that the people with the disabilities may use encourage them to be as imaginative as possible.

Award points to the team who complete the most and then ones that most imaginative.

Have the Beavers play a quiet game in which they are blindfolded.

They have to get across the room buy dodging hoops (or other objects - just make sure they can not trip ;-)) on the floor that layed out randomly.

Each team blindfold one individual from each colony.

They start at one end the other person on the team must guide them across the floor but they can not talk to them.

They can only tap them on the shoulder left or right to side step.

And then tap them on the head to move forwards.

The fastest team wins and they get awarded points accordingly the pointing system that I used is outlined at the bottom.

You can have then all do it at once or one-by-one depending on space.

Points I use for the night - feel free to adjust or not use just added for fun.

1st - 20
2nd - 15
3rd - 10
4th - 5

And then throughout the session I make sure to award points (5 to 10 depending on the situation) to those that show leadership and help out the younger beavers in the group.
