Visit from a Paramedic
Report Copyright Infringement View in OSM UK
Description
A visit from a paramedic from the London Ambulance Service.
The paramedic will talk to the beavers about what they do as a part of their job working for the ambulance service, how to call an ambulance, what to do in an emergency, and how to help someone who is unconscious or bleeding. This should cover all requirements for emergency aid 1.
Resources
'What to say when calling 999' resource
Paramedic visitor resource - London Ambulance power points on DRABC and the ambulance service.
Hospital, Ambulance, GP and First Aid Kit game.
Instructions
After flag break introduce the paramedic and explain that they are there to help teach us what to do in an emergency. Ask the beavers what they already know about the ambulance service and paramedics.
Split in to 3 groups (each activity should take around 10 minutes each)
Group 1: Calling 999 and what to do in an emergency
Group 2: Helping someone who is unconscious (DRABC and recovery position)
Group 3: Helping someone who is bleeding
With all the beavers back in one group they can ask questions and look at the different equipment that a paramedic carries with them to help them do their job.
OR if the beavers need a run around at the end, play North, South, East and West but instead change to Hospital, Ambulance, GP, and First Aid Kit. Read out short scenarios and the beavers need to run to what they think is the best place to go.
