This activity will help the Brownies understand how Brownies got their name.

Why We Are Called Brownie Guides

Instructions
• Brownies sit in two lines facing each other
• Leader gives each pair one of the following actions
• Leader reads story and Brownies complete the actions

Scouts/Scouting Stand up, turn around, sit down again
Guides Cross arms and shake hands with people on either side
Robert Baden Powell/Baden Powell Run and touch the nearest wall and back to place
Brownies Make Brownie Sign to person opposite you
Rosebuds Stand up and stretch arms like a flower opening
Birthday Sing Happy Birthday
Thinking Day Dance in a circle and sing a song e.g. It’s a Small World


Debrief/Discussion
Where did Brownies begin? (England)
Who is B-P, mentioned in the song? (Lord Baden-Powell)
Who is Agnes mentioned in the song? (Sister)
What is Lend a Hand? (Helping others without complaining)
