Report Copyright Infringement View in OSM UK

Description

Aim of the badge: To encourage an interest in Robotics and STEM learning
Requirements: Complete four activities around Robotics and LEGO

Watch a video about how robots move (Option 2 of 4)

Outcomes: Create an awareness of the possibilities of robots.
Encourage creative thinking on the different areas of our lives that robots can be useful (e.g. factories, hospitals, sports, to help people who have lost limbs)

Resources

Laptop / tablet (if your group has access to more than one device, divide girls in groups of 4 or 5)
+/- Projector Screen / TV

If your Unit does not have access to audiovisual equipment, the YouTube links could be mailed to parents and the girls could be asked to view at home and then discuss the videos at the meeting

Instructions

Using whatever media choice suits your unit, show the girls some videos about how robots move. The following 2 links from Boston Dynamics are a good way to show how versatile robots can be in the way they move.

https://youtu.be/fn3KWM1kuAw or https://youtu.be/tF4DML7FIWk

Get the girls to discuss how they think we could learn from the robots movements; e.g. sports, dance, healthcare
If showing the video and doing discussions in smaller groups, get the girls to go back into a circle to discuss what each group came up with
