Jamboree Host Nation Flags Game
Report Copyright Infringement View in OSM UK
Description
A relay race in which you have to take your 'seat' on a plane, according to the ticket you have for a recent Jamboree. First team to all be in their seats wins.
This game requires players to match national flags and country names. It also teaches which nations have hosted a Jamboree (since Thailand, 2003) We invented it as part of Beavers International Badge, and it has a Jamboree theme because we were discussing the 2023 Jamboree in S Korea.
The flags and tickets printout includes the Polish flag (for the 2027 Jamboree), which you may or may not want to include, depending on how far away that is when you play.
Resources
Colour Print out of the flags and tickets from the attached file(s) (the same file is provided as in Microsoft Powerpoint format, and as a PDF)- you need one printout per team
chairs - one for each player (if you don't have chairs, you could simply fix the flags to the floor at intervals, and the players sit on them)
tape/blutac/something to fix the flags to the chairs
Instructions
Set up
Print out the flags and tickets (attached file). You need one colour print out per team of 6-7
Cut up the tickets, and keep each team's set seperate from the rest (each team needs a full set, and a matching set of flags). You do not need the blank tickets (they are in the file in case anyone in future wants to adapt this for Jamborees after the 2027 one in Poland)
Decide where the relay teams will stand ready to run, and have a clear starting line behind which they must stay until it is their turn.
Arrange chairs in lines down your Hall or meeting place, one line for each team. The chairs should have their backs to where the relay teams will assemble.
There needs to be one chair per Jamboree flag (so up to 7 chairs per line, but you can use fewer if you don't have space).
Make sure there is enough space for each team's players to run past safely and find their seat.
Fix the flags to the backs of the chairs, one flag per chair and in date order (so Thailand 2003 at one end to S Korea 2023 or Poland 2027 at teh other).
Introduction/instructions for players
Introduce the idea of the World Scout Jamboree (as needed). It has happened in different countries. Everyone will be given a ticket to a Jamboree. Their ticket shows which country they are travelling to.
Everyone must start lined up in their teams behind the starting line. When it is their turn they must run up to the right chair and sit down.
When the teammate before you has sat in their seat, you can start your run.
The winning team is the first to have everyone sitting down, all in the right seats.
If a team doesn't have enough players to fill all their seats, some team members will have to run twice. The first time they put a ticket down on the right seat and run back. The second time they sit on their seat.
Players who are sitting on the seats must be careful not to trip, grab or interfere with people trying to find seats.
(Include any other safety issues here - e.g. we have folding chairs, which can fold up on a person who kneels or rocks on them, so we warn not to do that!)
Hand each team's tickets to the Lodge Leader or team captain, and let the teams decide who has which ticket. They should also decide what order the players will run in, and line up in that order.
Play
When everyone is ready, signal the start of the game
Leaders/other adults watch for teams encroaching over the start line, any silly or dangerous behaviour (e.g. threatening to trip other players) and for which team is finished first.
