Teaching Squirrels Phonetics for their Air Activities Staged Badge

Print off list of Phonetics, one column for the letter, one for the phonetic word and one column for the phonetic pronunciation.

Instructions

Talk to the Squirrels about what the phonetic alphabet is and who uses it. They do phonics at school so get them to say the words 'Phonics' and then the word 'Phonetics' so that they can see the difference.

Split into nests and work together in nests to write a message in the phonetic alphabet to give to another nest to decode. Write your message out in big letter first and then write the phonetic word beneath each letter.

Once all nests finished, get the Squirrels to shout their message in phonetic alphabet to the other nests, and the other nests must figure out the message.
