Description
The YP will explore emotions by making faces out of playdough the other YP can then try to guess the emotion
Resources
Playdough in different skin tones/colours
Face mats or templates
Goggley eyes or buttons
wool for hair
pipecleaners to bend into mouth shapes or eyebrows
Emotion word prompts cards eg Happy, Sad, Angry, Worried, Tired, Proud, Excited, Scared
Instructions
Prior to introducing this activity we read books about feelings and practicing showing different facial expressions and body postures that we might see with different emotions.
We also talk about things that can make us a feel a certain way. (This is a wonderful opportunity to indirectly address and discuss any behaviors you are noticing…both positive and negative.)
Along the way as they are pressing and manipulating the dough and pressing in loose parts they are also exercising fine motor muscles while learning about feelings and emotions.
Option of asking the other YP to try and guess the emotion
