Instructions
Have a discussion with the girls to get their understanding of what First aid is and how to call the emergency services.
Its important to tell the girls that the person they are most likely to need to help is either themselves or their friends. One of the best ways to teach First aid to children is through role play but scenarios that involve mums or dads can cause anxiety so should be avoided.
Learning your Eircode – Ask parents to write out their Eircode and sent to the meeting with the child’s name wrote on the back. Give the girls a moment to look at their Eircode and maybe recognise the numbers. Place all the Eircodes then at one end of the room/hall and have the girls run in relay form and try to find the numbers they recognise. Did they get the correct one? Its possible more than one has the same numbers. Play again but this time see can they add some letters. Continue until all the girls has their correct Eircode.
Stick the Eircode onto a small card and let girls decorate and advise to leave in a place for the whole family to see and learn.
The door of the Fridge is an ideal place to stick it.
Safe or Unsafe Scenarios.
Print out a list of Safe or Unsafe expressions. Have a sign displaying SAFE and UNSAFE and place at opposite ends of the room. Call out expression and girls should decide if its safe or unsafe.
Flash cards can be used for this activity and girls can decide if the picture is safe or unsafe and why?
