Description

Aim: To teach children that first aid is about helping everyone and might be a little as getting someone a drink of water or calling for help.

Outcomes: The children will gain an understanding of situations where they can help offer first aid and what to do.

List of simple situations where some might need first aid

Instructions

Print out a list of expressions that might require First aid or use flash cards.

Idea 1 - Discuss with the girls what could you do to help this person by having a show of hands and discussion or if using flash cards, give each girl /group card(s) and allow time to say what is in the picture and ask questions. Include items that girls might require such as Epi pens or inhalers.

What would this be used for?

Remember to emphasise that for children their age, they can help but they must make sure they are safe and that their help might only be calling for someone or getting a drink or water or helping someone to sit down.

Examples –
Sore stomach, Tooth fell Out, Hurt Knee, Earache, Epipen, Splinter in Finger, Headache, Bee/Wasp sting, Sore eye
Sore throat, Bleeding, Medicine Bottle, Bumped head, Sore arm, Rash, Insulin.


Idea 2 – Charades.
Print out a list of scenarios or use flash cards. In turns each girl gets a card and must act out her symptoms and the girls must try to see what is wrong and how can they help.

I’m too hot
I feel dizzy
My elbow hurts
I feel confused
My ear hurts
Its too Bright
I feel sick
I’m too cold
I’ve hurt my knee
