Description

Cards placed around the field / outdoor area each with a letter related to SQUIRRELS – each letter card has a colour and the Squirrels need to colour the letter on their sheet when they find the card

Squirrels do it in pairs or threes (depending on numbers) to help them make friends and support each other if they don't recognise the letters

Instructions

Create cards that have a letter on one side and a colour on the other
Hide the cards round a set outdoor location (needs a boundary, so that Squirrels don't get lost)
Provide the Squirrels with a piece of paper that has the letters in boxes, so that they can colour the boxes when they find the letter e.g. they find the letter S which has blue on the back, then they can colour one o the 'S' blue
Send the Squirrels off in pairs to search for the letters, giving them clues or using the four main compass point directions to help them

Note: because Squirrels has doubles of some letters, then it is maybe a bit easier as it doesn't matter which S or R they colour. We would also suggest that Qu is found together to support the fact it is often found together and is an early letter pairing.
